Ways to Deal With Finances as a Couple

*Yikes, I’m sorry for the lack of posts recently. I’m focusing a lot of my energy into the upcoming tv series I’m making for this blog! Right now the working title is The Marriage Project. Super excited to bring this to you guys, as you’ll get to see the person behind this blog. At this point I’m wanting to use my real name and deal with real issues I go through regarding relationships. You’ll get to see a bit of my past and what I’m presently dealing with being newly engaged. The series won’t be out until summer, but I’m hoping by May I’ll have a teaser trailer for you guys to view!

In the meantime, I’ll bring about some good material to refer you all to. Stuff that I’ve run across or others have sent me. This one is from my brother, Allan, the genius behind Hacker not Cracker.

Since I’m dealing with this whole process of sharing everything as my fiance and I are heading towards the marriage alter, of course the touchy subject of finances has to be dealt with sooner or later. (I’m hoping for later… since it’s like pulling teeth for me!)

But when the time is right, it’s good to know what your options are. This article breaks it down by comparing it to government systems. Satirical. Quite true. The gist of it:

The communist system:

What’s mine is yours. What’s yours is mine.

The capitalist system:

We split it all down the middle.

The socialist system:

You earn more. You pay more. I earn less. I pay less.

Utterly confused? Read the breakdown of each system.

Which system do you feel most comfortable with? I’d be curious to see where the majority of men fall vs. women! lol

I think the communist approach sounds the most loving and least complicated, but I think it’s also nice for each person to have a little bit of green that is theirs to spend as they like.

Oh- ha! I didn’t read the breakdown before I decided, but yes, I still think I prefer being a communist (what the heck am I saying?! lol). I really hate talking about and dealing with money too, but once that conversation has happened and it’s all out in the open- Whew! What a relief! 😀

Lydia, how did the topic come up? I’d love to know!
