Is Instant Attraction Necessary???

February 12th, 2009 by MidoriLei

Thanks for this video, Nathan!

I find that in general men are more visual creatures and an instant attraction is necessary, whereas women can warm up to a guy as long as the guy’s character and/or personality shine. Of course this is a stereotype. What do ya’ll (there’s the Texas girl giveaway) think?

A girl may warm up to a guy as long as his character and/or personality shine, but let me tell you why instant attraction is an absolute must for guys.

Men, generally speaking, pursue women. Sometimes it’s the other way around, sure. But it’s usually our job to say hi, get a phone number, set up a date, etc. You CANNOT get a firm grasp on a girl’s character and personality after talking to her for 5 min and getting a phone number. So what do we do?

We go after women based on looks. Is it shallow? Maybe. But it’s all we have to act on. THEN we can decide if she’s worth keeping. Looks attract, personality keeps.

See, I’m glad you still know that men pursue. So many men have forgotten this! Fair enough… I still wonder if there are some men reading this who may disagree with us… hmmmmm….

Cory makes a good point. It may seem shallow to act based on physical appearance, but when guys are expected to be the proactive party, what else is there to go on? You can’t look across the room and say, “Wow, she’s got a gorgeous sense of humour.”

Or, “Dude, check out the morals on that one!” How about, “Hey, that stunning intelligence is really cute on you.”

And here’s another thought. You might have a gorgeous dress that you wear out to special events. It looks great. But what do you wear when you’re just relaxing and wanting to be comfortable? Probably your favorite faded sweatpants. The problem is, you’d probably be a bit embarrassed to be seen wearing it out in public when you’re wanting to be presentable. And with people, that shouldn’t be the case! You want someone who isn’t just nice to have at home, but someone you are proud to have by your side when you go out. Thankfully, there’s more to that than just appearance. Personally, I’d be embarrassed introducing a ditzy, airhead supermodel as my SO.

As an artist, I definitely fall under the category of being more visually tuned, and it’s not just guys. But at the same time, that trait allows me to appreciate aesthetics all around me, sometimes ones that not everyone necessarily would. Even a photograph of an old man’s leathery face can be beautiful to me. So if I end up with a girl, I know she will be too.

Nathan, you’re sooo funny! You make a good point too.

and you said…. “so if I end up with a girl”

as opposed to a boy???? lol

  5. Nathan Says:

Ok, let me rephrase that then. :P

If I end up with someone, that girl will be beautiful to me.
