I’m sure you’ve probably heard of Fifty Shades of Grey, the erotic novel that is taking the world by storm. Most of the women I’ve talked to who’ve read it have read the trilogy at least 3 times!
So many things have paid tribute to this trilogy. Here are a few:
Did you see this SNL parody of it? (caution: adult content)
One of my best friends read me a chapter while her boyfriend was asleep in the same room! OMG! I haven’t read anything other than what my best friend read to me, so I asked another friend of mine why this book was so different from other romance novels. What’s so great about the main male character, Christian Grey?
And she said it like this:
“We’re tired of timid boys. 50 Shades of Grey brings back the Alpha male in full force. He knows what he wants, doesn’t care what others think, goes after what he wants with no hesitation. That’s real confidence- when you don’t give a damn about people’s reactions (including women) and you just go after what you want. He’s decisive, and he does it his way. He’s not needy. He’s in control. He’s an alpha male.”
Here are some other points about Christian’s character pointed out by reviewers on Amazon:
“Christian is, to me, one of the best male leads in romance that I’ve read in a long time…I also love stories about men who like to be in control and need to be in control and demand to be in control and then get that rug pulled right out from under them by a guileless woman.”
“Christian, what can I say about him other than yummy? This is a man who knows what he wants and takes it. I am in awe of his prowess.”
– Brandy Dorsch
“You fall for him right away, that’s how charming he is. You wish he were real or you were in the book to be able to just be with him. You want to take care of him, date him, smack him, be with him, admire him, all the above. He’s just that amazing.”
“We really believe she might succeed in humanising this intimidating, masterful man where all the women who went before her have failed.”
“…brilliant and ambitious, Christan has no qualms about going after what he wants. And what he wants is Anastasia.”
“Christian’s character is THE alpha male… It’s because of Christian’s childhood he is the way he is, but he does not impose this forcefully on Ana…he lets her choose. Ana being new to the sexual activities, also indulges Christian, if she doesn’t like something she lets him know and he obliges her..
I’ve heard/read comments saying that after all that women have been through for their independence why would such a book be popular.Women, even if they don’t want to admit it, would like their men to be like Christian, he takes charge, takes care of Ana, talks to her, sees to all her needs.”
“The tormented, domineering Christian Grey is hotter than hell. Even so, there is some hidden secret that makes him so fragile.”
-Beth A. Mountz
“I will say that my favourable response is due to the Christian Grey character. He is so complex. He is domineering, controlling but he is also vulnerable. He is brilliant, sexy, seemingly unreachable but he meets Ana and gradually begins to unbend – at least a little.”
“The different shades in his character portrays him as a complex but very interesting person and what an alpha with just the right amount of tormented vulnerability that could only be brought out and healed by the right girl
– Anastasia.” -aquarius
“I fell in love with Christian by somewhere around the end of the first chapter. He was the perfect Alpha male to me. He was strong and masculine and used to getting his own way, but he was also sexy and protective and sweet and he doted on her like someone he cherished. Swoon.”
This is only a few reviews from over 3000 + five star reviews on this book! Surely gentlemen, you can learn something from Christian Grey:)
