It’s 2010. Is chivalry dead? Are gentlemen extinct? A relic of a distant past?
My boyfriend is proof they are out there. And I didn’t ask him to behave in this manner.
You probably know by now that I believe that true masculinity is what women are attracted to because it makes women who experience it feel more feminine. (the opposite is also true that true femininity is what men are attracted to because it makes men feel more masculine)
That’s what chivalry does: It puts that distinction on masculine and feminine behavior/roles.
Gentlemen, you want to stand out above the competition when trying to win a woman’s heart?
Be that guy who really makes an effort in making a girl feel feminine, feel taken care of.
They are nearly extinct!
Here’s five simple things you can do:
1. Always let her say goodbye on the phone.
This makes her feel like you are sacrificial and a good listener, concerned more about her needs being met than your own.
2. Don’t hang up the receiver on the phone until you can tell she has hung up on her end.
This small gesture makes her feel like you are there to protect her from ever feeling rejected.
3. Open and close her doors (car doors, restaurant doors, house doors)
This makes her feel like you know your priorities and love putting her first.
4. Walk on the side of the sidewalk that is closer to the street
This makes her feel like you would go at small or great lengths to protect her.
5. Carry her backpack/umbrella/groceries
This makes her feel like you would use your strength to make her comfortable.
So I didn’t make these up. All of these are things that men from my past and the man in my present have done for me. Believe me, they may be small gestures, but they will be noticed by women who are on the lookout for a gentleman!
