5 Ways to Show a Girl You’re a Gentleman

It’s 2010. Is chivalry dead? Are gentlemen extinct? A relic of a distant past?

No.

My boyfriend is proof they are out there. And I didn’t ask him to behave in this manner.

You probably know by now that I believe that true masculinity is what women are attracted to because it makes women who experience it feel more feminine. (the opposite is also true that true femininity is what men are attracted to because it makes men feel more masculine)

That’s what chivalry does: It puts that distinction on masculine and feminine behavior/roles.

Gentlemen, you want to stand out above the competition when trying to win a woman’s heart?

Be that guy who really makes an effort in making a girl feel feminine, feel taken care of.

They are nearly extinct!

Here’s five simple things you can do:

1. Always let her say goodbye on the phone.

This makes her feel like you are sacrificial and a good listener, concerned more about her needs being met than your own.

2. Don’t hang up the receiver on the phone until you can tell she has hung up on her end.

This small gesture makes her feel like you are there to protect her from ever feeling rejected.

3. Open and close her doors (car doors, restaurant doors, house doors)

This makes her feel like you know your priorities and love putting her first.

4. Walk on the side of the sidewalk that is closer to the street

This makes her feel like you would go at small or great lengths to protect her.

5. Carry her backpack/umbrella/groceries

This makes her feel like you would use your strength to make her comfortable.

So I didn’t make these up. All of these are things that men from my past and the man in my present have done for me. Believe me, they may be small gestures, but they will be noticed by women who are on the lookout for a gentleman!

You know what I would say to this, right? “Girls want it all! Feminism and chivalry, bra burning and bro braking, feminine mystique and masculine mistreatment!” LMAO! I also know what you’ll say, “You’re not even in a relationship!”

I agree with 3-5, but not so much on the first two. Women don’t really want a guy who hangs on their every word, waiting for them to say goodbye. They’d rather have a decisive, take-charge guy who has the confidence to end the conversation when the time comes. Besides, if we don’t end the conversation they’ll go on forever! (j/k)

Gentlemen do exist, but are less likely to show it these days.
Maybe it conflicts with the image they want people to see?
I think the surroundings or setting makes a difference.
To find out if he’s a gentleman, don’t expect him to show that side if his friends are around.
In time that would change, but just the way it works…

The phone ones are not as big as the others. In addition, woman like nice surprises such as an unexpected gift or take time from the ballgame to spend time with her.

True Jerry, surprises and just quality time are important to women:)
